My younger daughter recently got a gerbil. Last night, when I was tucking her in, kissing her goodnight, and hugging her, she looked over at the gerbil cage and smiled. It kind of reminded me of when I'd look in on her at night, just after she'd fall asleep, and I quietly chuckled at the irony.
"Daddy, what are you laughing about" she inquired?
"I was watching you watch your gerbil," I replied, "and it kind of reminds me of when I walk by your room and peek my head in the door, just to watch you sleep."
"So I'm kind of like her mom, right?"
"Yep."
With a twinkle in her eye, and a wry grin on her face, she looked at me and said "They grow up so fast."
