Lazy Children + Stupid Dogs = Hilarity

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. My children are lazy little pigs, and my dogs are stupid. Generally, this frustrates the hell out of me, but every now and then, the results are really funny. Take what happened this morning as an example...

If you look at the picture, you will will see a hair straightener (circled in white) hanging next to the dog, and if you look closely, you will see an electrical cord below the white arrows.

The dog went into the kids' bathroom and got the cord wrapped around her neck. The hair straightener was not powered on, but it was still plugged in to the wall. As a result, the dog thought that she was on a very short leash, and just sat in the hall until I got to her and "let her off her leash."

You may have a different opinion than me, but that does not make me wrong.

I already (briefly) discussed how the dog got the cord wrapped around her neck, but allow me to clarify. My daughters left their hair straightener on the vanity after using it. Part of the cord was hanging off of the side of the vanity. The dog walked in and got the cord wrapped around her neck. That in itself was mildly amusing, but what was more amusing was that she treated it like a leash and just sat down and waited for someone to release her. I would not call that "bad puppy parenting;" I would call that good training. Lord knows what would have happened if she'd have freaked out!

I doubt that she was an Australian Kelpie, but I'll never know... I adopted her from the humane society as a puppy, and raised her until she died about nine months after this post, from bladder cancer.

As for "bad dog parenting," you are making a broad assumption based on nothing more than a picture and brief blog post. You don't know anything about me; You haven't earned the right to judge my dog ownership skill.

In the grand scheme of things I've only got this to say.... dude, you need to chill out! When I saw the dog like this, I had two options... I could have freaked out and stressed (like you apparently did), or I could laugh it off. I chose to laugh. Furthermore, life is not a convenient, predictable, pretty little package that always unfolds as expected. Sometimes the unexpected occurs. This was one of those unexpected little wrinkles. Again, I could choose to stress out, or I could choose to laugh.

Finally, you should consider changing your perspective. You took time to deride my "dog parenting" skills based on an unfortunate series of events beyond my control. It's quite apparent that this event somehow traumatized you. That's unfortunate. What's more unfortunate though is homelessness... world hunger... poverty... Justin Bieber... yet you chose to get worked up about this harmless little issue.

As for posting pictures... you need to post the picture somewhere on the internet that's publicly accessible, and then use HTML coding to create a link. You can Google the instructions for creating the HTML link.
