I broke down and bought a new laptop today. I'm still learning the ins and outs of Vista, but overall it's not as bad as people have said.
The laptop came with a lot of extra crap that needed to be removed, but I expected that up front. The laptop is much faster than my eight-plus year old Dell desktop, and I look forward to several happy years with my new toy.

Vista's not bad for laptops, because everything works when it leaves the factory.
I looked into Vista for my desktop (because I'll need it soon enough when all new games are DX10), but right now my printer wouldn't work, or my soundcard.
It's basically the jump from 32 bit to 64 bit drivers that's the main problem...as well as all the 'anti-piracy' features which means my stored DVD library wouldn't work.
I've been thinking about backing up some of my DVDs to see if they work on Vista. I know that making a home movie on this laptop is a shitload faster than on my old PC.
You LUCKY, LUCKY DOG!!!
Let us know in a couple months how you like it then....I wanna try and get Paulius one for Christmas.
Backed up DVD's will work with Vista (I think), but what I've done is made DVD images of most of my DVD's and have them stored on the computer.
I did that because my PC has a nice big widescreen monitor and it's easy to burn a copy if something happens to the originals.
However, when I ran that 'Vista compatibility checker' from dear old microsoft it told me the image mounting software I use won'tt work with Vista.
It's what I've said before...It's perfectly legal software with legal applications, but because it CAN be used for piracy, Vista won't run it.
